Telegram from the Governor of Hong Kong to the Secretary of
State for the Colonies.
Dated 17th February.
(Received Colonial Office 6.30 a.m., 17th February, 1927)
Your telegram of 7th February, Aerodrome.
The
work involved in Commodore's proposals has been put in hand.
The proposals provided only temporary covering for Nullah.
In anticipation of your approval I have sanctioned permanent
covering at a cost of a further £400 to save subsequent
waste of money. The Commodore's estimate did not include
cost of acquisition of area-namely 2,293,750 square feet
which at 25 cents per square foot (a figure which includes
the cost of reclamation done already by the Kaitak Company)
equals $573,437. Full details of the complete Aerodrome
including wharves buildings etc. are being designed and
estimated cost will be telegraphed later.
I should be glad to know if His Majesty's Govern-
ment is bearing any part of £4,400 involved in the work now
in hand or in the cost of acquisition and if so how much.
